Yes, foreigners married to Vietnamese citizens can apply for a marriage visa or a long-term temporary residence card. The duration of the marriage visa typically ranges from 1 to 5 years, depending on the specific case.
Do foreigners married to Vietnamese citizens need a work permit?
No, foreigners married to Vietnamese citizens are exempt from work permits when working in Vietnam, as per Clause 8, Article 154 of the Labor Code 2019, effective from January 1, 2021.
What is considered a legal marriage in Vietnam?
According to Article 8 of the Law of 1987, for a marriage to be legally recognized in Vietnam, it must be approved and registered by the local Administrative Committee at either the man’s or woman’s place of residence. Any other forms of celebration are considered invalid.
Where should I submit the marriage documents?
Submit the required documents to the People’s Committee in the district where one partner resides. If both partners are foreign nationals, it’s advisable to apply in the district where they intend to live. After submission, authorities will review the documents, and if everything is in order, an interview or follow-up appointment might be scheduled.
