FAQ on Travel Insurance in Vietnam
Why do we need travel insurance when going on a business trip or vacation?
Travel insurance is essential for two main reasons:
(a) To protect you financially from unexpected and unpredictable risks during your trip, such as:
Non-refundable flight tickets or hotel deposits in case of delays, cancellations, or lost personal baggage
Medical expenses or hospitalization due to illness, weather-related issues, injury, or accident-related death
Liability for damages caused to others or injuries during your trip
(b) For visa application requirements
Many countries—especially in Europe (e.g., Germany, France, UK…)—now require valid travel insurance as a mandatory condition for visa approval.
How is compensation handled for loss of money or travel documents?
If travel documents, money, or transferable banking instruments are lost due to theft, robbery, the use or threat of force, the insurance company will compensate up to the maximum benefit stated in the Insurance Certificate. Compensation is based on the actual loss and requires the insured person to report the incident to the local police within 24 hours. Any claim must be accompanied by an official police report confirming the loss.
How is personal accident compensation provided?
If the insured person suffers injury during a trip that leads to death or permanent disability—such as loss of sight or total permanent disability—within 180 days of the accident, or must be hospitalized for continuous medical treatment due to such injury, the insurance company will compensate based on the insured sum listed in the insurance certificate, according to the following schedule:
Death due to accident: 100%
Total permanent disability: 100%
Total and permanent loss of hearing and speech: 100%
Total loss of vision in both eyes: 100%
Loss of both limbs: 100%
Loss of one limb: 60%
Loss of vision in one eye: 60%
Total and permanent loss of the lens in one eye: 60%
Total and permanent loss of speech: 50%
Total and permanent loss of hearing in both ears: 50%
Total and permanent loss of hearing in one ear: 15%
How much does travel insurance in Vietnam cost?
The cost of travel insurance in Vietnam depends on factors like your age, health status, planned activities, and the duration of your stay. For example, a healthy 30-year-old without pre-existing conditions can expect to pay around US$140 for a 14-day trip. Prices may vary based on additional coverage options you select.
